About Dern Family Research
In memory of my wonderful Dad, Dave ROSE (a victim of James HARDY Industries).

What began as curiosity about relatives often spoken about by my parents,
grandparents and parent's-in-law, has expanded into the research that has grown to
what it is today. So, in the bi-centennial year 1988 was when I began my family
history research.

My paternal research should really be of the BARNETT family, not the ROSE'S. My great
great grandfather Henry BARNETT died in March 1854, when his wife Johanna (nee
GOGGINS) was 3 months pregnant with her son Henry (my great grandfather). She married
Thomas Nelson ROSE in May the same year and young Henry was subsequently raised as
the son of Thomas & Johanna, and named Henry Barnett ROSE. At this stage, we know
nothing at all of where Henry BARNETT originated from.

The Family History of my maternal grandparents Herbert Leslie BALL & Florence Melba
WARD, has also been researched, as well as the families of both of my parent's-in-
law, George & Betty DERN (nee PHILLIPS).

My family history research has expanded over the years, and has included the
publication of two CD's of cemetery indexes, one for Queensland and the other for New
South Wales, as well as a Pioneeer Register on the Outback of New South Wales, and I
am in the process of compiling another Register covering South West Queensland, as
well as helping other researchers with their family history.

With both my children well and truely grown and living their own lives, my family
history research is my sanity. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any queries,
add any new information or advise me of any errors in my research. And, please do
feel free to sign my guest book.

NOTE: All Countries, Counties & States on my site, are abbreviated, according to the
universal CHAPMAN Code. If anyone I have given invitations to, wish to edit or add
any individuals, would they mind putting all surnames in capital letters. Thanks.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
